Anatomy and Physiology for Yoga Teachers with Justine Shelton

    The human body is remarkable and complex. A comprehensive study of the principles of Anatomy and Physiology is a core requirement for yoga teachers. Whether you are in training to become a new yoga teacher, or have been teaching for years, A&P is one of the areas we can all use a deeper understanding of.

    In this series of three, 6-hours session, we will explore the principles of A & P to gain a greater understanding of how yoga asana can support the body to be in its greatest health. As the body goes, so goes the mind and spirit.

    These sessions meet 200-hour requirements for yoga teacher training, and Continuing Education requirements.

    Session Two: From the Floor to the Core
    Saturday, December 20, 2014, 1 – 5 pm

    The feet serve as our foundation, in life as well as in asana. This class will cover the anatomy of the lower body including the hips and pelvic girdle. The anatomy of joints will be covered as well as a discussion of the fascia, proprioception, the nervous system and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF).

    Session Three: From the Hips to the Head
    Saturday, February 28, 2015, 1 – 5 pm

    The anatomy of the arms will be covered, with particular attention to the shoulder joint and rotator cuff anatomy. Free form movements linked to breath versus weight bearing movements will be discussed as well as knowing when to employ what movements for your students. Visceral anatomy will be covered, including peristalsis and why Yoga is so good for digestion!

Chair Yoga and the Anatomy of Aging with Sherry Zak Morris

    The vast majority of Americans are growing into their golden years, 70+, and beginning to experience the physical effects of aging. It is becoming imperative that Yoga Teachers learn to adapt their classes to safeguard the health of their Senior students, and also quite advantageous to be able to add chair Yoga to your teaching skills.

    Sherry Zak Morris will review the most pertinent health issues facing the Senior population, the Yogic prescriptions for wellness and the necessary contraindications for Senior Yoga practice. You will be given all the tools necessary to plan and teach an effective and inspired chair Yoga class.

    Gentle Somatic Yoga (tm): Re-patterning the Body and Mind to Move More Freely
